XM and Audiovox Introduce Radios for Auto Dealers Nationwide

Oct. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- XM Satellite Radio, America's leading satellite radio service, and Audiovox, an international leader in the marketing of vehicle entertainment systems and consumer electronics products, have teamed to offer a dealer-installed XM radio system to independent auto dealers nationwide.

The Audiovox XM radio system is compatible with any factory-installed audio system because it adapts to the existing AM/FM radio. Therefore, XM can be made available to consumers through any independent new or used car dealer not already offering XM as a factory-installed feature. The Audiovox system costs $399 installed for most vehicles.

Audiovox has relationships with 500 expeditors that service 10,000 independent auto dealers and is currently the market leader in rear-seat entertainment systems because of the strength of its distribution relationships with independent auto dealers.

"We're thrilled to make XM Satellite Radio available to auto dealers nationwide," said Tom Malone, Audiovox Electronics Corp, Senior Vice President. "Audiovox supplies radios to a wide variety of auto dealers selling various automotive brands and has already produced thousands of XM car radios, anticipating intense demand for this innovative new entertainment service."

Dan Murphy, XM Vice President of Retail Marketing and OEM Distribution, said, "Our partnership with Audiovox gives independent auto dealers nationwide a great opportunity to offer XM Satellite Radio today to purchasers of new and used vehicles, regardless of brand."

XM (NASDAQ:XMSR) is the fastest-selling audio product in the last 20 years. XM had 201,500 subscribers as of Sept. 30 and is on track to reach 350,000 subscribers by year-end. General Motors recently began selling factory-installed XM radios across 25 different 2003 models including household brand names such as Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac. Honda offers XM in the Honda Accord, Honda Pilot and Acura MDX. Isuzu dealers offer XM radios to buyers of their Axiom and Rodeo models. XM will be available as an option on future Audi and Volkswagen models. XM radios are available at major electronics retailers nationwide. Leading manufacturers such as Sony, Alpine, Pioneer, Delphi and Audiovox offer a broad array of XM radios that easily enable any existing car stereo system.

XM is transforming radio, an industry that has seen little technological change since FM, almost 40 years ago. XM's programming lineup features 101 coast-to-coast digital channels: 70 music channels, many of them commercial- free, from hip hop to opera, classical to country, bluegrass to blues; and 31 channels of sports, talk, children's and entertainment. XM was named 2001 "Product of the Year" by Fortune, an "Invention of the Year" by Time and won Popular Science's 2001 "Best of What's New" Grand Award in the electronics category. XM won several awards at the 2001 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including "Best of CES" in the automotive category, and received a coveted "A" rating from Entertainment Weekly. XM's strategic investors include America's leading car, radio and satellite TV companies -- General Motors, American Honda Motor Co. Inc., Clear Channel Communications and DIRECTV.
