Sharp Delivers First Widescreen, HD-Compatible AQUOS LCD TV

April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Sharp Electronics Corporation, the market leader in LCD TV, today announced the retail availability of the 30-inch widescreen, high-definition compatible AQUOS Liquid Crystal Television. Sharp recently announced the expansion of its flat-screen AQUOS Liquid Crystal Television line to include 16:9 widescreen models, and the LC-30HV2U is the first to ship. This newest addition to the AQUOS line is SharpVision-branded and has a state-of-the-art ASV (Advanced Super View) panel, offering 170 degree viewing angles, a 500:1 contrast ratio, and a 16:9 aspect ratio for viewing widescreen movies in their original format. Model LC-30HV2U uses enhanced ASV panels featuring Ultra-High Aperture TFT (UHA TFT), a new development in LCD panel technology delivering extremely wide viewing angles and an exceptionally high contrast ratio. Like other AQUOS Liquid Crystal Televisions, this new model also features "Black TFT" coating on the panel, reducing glare and heightening brightness in strong light conditions.

Perfect for the family living room or intimate home theater setting, the 30-inch AQUOS Liquid Crystal Television with WXGA resolution (1280 X 768) delivers high-definition display capability (720p) that enables viewers to watch high-definition television (HDTV) broadcasts in 16:9 format.

To accompany the picture, the detachable speakers included with the LC-30HV2U provide high quality audio output. In addition, the innovative, separate Audio Video Computer (AVC) system, included with the LC-30HV2U, houses component audio, video and computer (PC) inputs and outputs, and reduces the clutter of cables around the panel itself, creating a clean, stylish look.

The LC-30HV2U also features a redesigned stand that makes transportation and setup easy. With the included stand or optional mounting brackets, the widescreen AQUOS television can be placed on a wall, on a bookshelf or almost anywhere imaginable in the home.

The AQUOS brand evokes images of the fluidity of liquid crystal and serves to emphasize the elegant design and superior performance consumers have come to expect from Sharp products. As an example, the AQUOS line offers a long life backlight (60,000 hours), multiple video signal inputs (Component, S-Video and Composite), built-in cable TV tuner, remote control, V-Chip and high brightness for more vibrant colors in darker environments. AQUOS televisions are efficient in that they consume 60 percent less power than comparably sized CRT direct-view televisions.
