Samsung Launches Progressive Scan DVD Player
July 2002 -- Samsung Electronics America, Inc., which enjoyed tremendous success in 2001 by introducing the DVD-V1000 DVD/VHS Combo player to the market, breaks new ground with the introduction of two technologically advanced DVD/VCR Combo players, the DVD-V2000 and DVD-V2500. Both models feature a 4-head HiFi VCR that includes a MTS/SAP stereo tuner and a lighting-fast 400X rewind speed. The DVD-V2500 adds 3/2 pull down and progressive scan component video outputs, and is the first combo player to offer the innovative Memory Stick port for direct playback of digital audio recordings or viewing of digital photos.
With rich titanium-finished front panels, both new combos offer attractive and convenient space saving solutions, combining DVD and VCR functionality and ease of use without any loss in product quality. Samsung's advanced graphic user interface guides users through the host of functions, and both models are compatible with CD-R/RW discs for playback of popular MP3 and WMA music files. The Memory Stick function on DVD-V2500 can also be used for multi-format music files. As an added bonus, consumers can view their digital still camera images by utilizing the Memory Stick interface or converting their digital images to CD. The DVD-V2500 also has the ability to playback Photo CDs.
Claude Frank, Director for Digital Audio/Video, Samsung Electronics America, Inc., said, "Samsung was the first company to mass market the DVD/VCR concept. Consumers quickly appreciated the simplicity and flexibility of having two of the most used home entertainment products combined in a single unit. Now the DVD-V2000 and DVD-V2500 up the stakes with even more features and advanced technology that appeal to both first time users and hardcore enthusiasts."
Best Of Both Worlds
The DVD-V2000 and DVD-V2500 both offer powerful VCR performance, thanks to the 4-head dual azimuth record/playback system, which is enhanced by HQ and luminance noise reduction (YNR) circuitry, as well as a digital auto tracking system. Tapes rewind at a blistering 400-times-play speed, and the MTS/SAP stereo system can deliver Dolby Surround Sound from stereo videotapes and stereo broadcasts. For those videophiles with a library of S-VHS recordings, both models include SQPB that can playback these enhanced tapes at full VHS resolution.
The unique architecture of the DVD-V2000 and DVD-V25000 makes connections simple, since the composite video and analog audio outputs are shared by the DVD and VCR. Two sets of A/V inputs (Front and Rear) are also included for VCR recording or pass through to the TV. S-Video and component outputs provide DVD images only. This capability is an important consideration as game systems, satellite receivers and other devices compete for spots on the TV's input panel. Once connected, Samsung's Combos are incredibly easy to use, either through the comprehensive front panel controls or via the advanced universal remote. The remote includes a unique joystick control that allows users to glide through DVD menus or the player's own advanced graphic user Interface with the tip of a single finger.
The top-of-the-line DVD-V2500 features an elegant new front panel display, which combines a half mirror finish with exotic blue backlighting to clearly display VCR and DVD parameters from across the room. The DVD-V2500 also offers Samsung's 3/2 pull down progressive scan system, making it the ideal partner for the latest digital television monitors and receivers. Another unique feature of this elite device is still image display, which allows viewing of photos right on the TV, either from the front panel Memory Stick slot or through a photo-CD compatible disc.
The DVD-V2000 is currently available at $299.99 (MSRP); the DVD-V2500 will be shipping in July at $349.99 (MSRP).
