Samsung Announces DVD Promotion

March 20, 2002 – DVD players promise to be one of the hottest selling items this Father’s Day and Samsung has an exclusive agreement with Warner Home Video that sweetens the deal by offering two free DVD movie classics with the purchase of any Samsung DVD player. From May 5 through June 15, 2002, anyone who buys a Samsung DVD player at a participating store gets free copies of Rodney Dangerfield’s Caddyshack and Sylvester Stallone’s Driven via a mail-in coupon. It’s the perfect way to help Dad start his DVD collection and begin to enjoy at home the stunning theater-quality images and sound, and advanced viewing features that Samsung’s award-winning DVD players provide. Samsung DVD, Caddyshack and Driven, what more could Dad ask for?

A recognized leader in DVD design and innovation, Samsung has a full line of new DVD players that Dad will love, including:
  • Samsung’s DVD-S321 (MSRP $179.99 available from February) is as stylish as it is smart, with elegant, titanium-finish front panels highlighting a 17” wide home theater chassis. A headphone jack and rotary volume control are on the front panel, along with a bright fluorescent display and convenient jog shuttle control. A full compliment of rear panel connections include composite, S-video and component video outputs, providing for the optimal TV hookup. The DVD-S321 is also among Samsung’s first models to feature the palm-sized EZ Remote for quick, intuitive navigation of key DVD player functions.

  • The DVD-P421 (MSRP $199.99 available April) features 480p progressive scan video output with 3/2 pull down for the highest-quality DVD picture available. When used with a compatible digital television monitor, the sophisticated system converts 24-frame film and delivers video signals at a constant 30 frames-per-second rate, eliminating the flicker and distortion that can occur on traditional interlaced systems as objects move across the screen. This combined process results in an enhanced home entertainment experience that is as close as you can get to watching a film in the theater.

  • Samsung’s DVD-P721M (MSRP $249.99 available April) also offers 480p progressive scan video output with 3/2 pull down and is among the first DVD players on the market to offer a Memory Stick slot for music and photo playback. This unique interface, compatible with the increasingly popular Memory Stick media, can display digital still images for convenient viewing of photos from a digital camera, digital camcorder or PC file right on the TV. Pictures can also be loaded from photo-CD compatible discs. Memory Stick can also playback MP3 files, providing virtually instant transfer of music from a user’s PC or Memory Stick compatible portable device. Memory Stick storage media is the size of a stick of gum and available in capacities of up to 128 MB, equaling to hundreds of digital pictures or more than two hours of CD-quality music.

  • Samsung’s DVD-A921M (MSRP $299.99 available in June) brings all the benefits and features of Samsung’s top-quality DVD line and is specially designed to handle new DVD Audio format discs. This flexible format uses the massive storage capacity of DVDs for better-than-CD-quality recordings that bring the full ambience of a live performance right into the living room. Audiophiles will love the additional HDCD playback capability that captures the full richness and detail of first generation audio recordings for DVDs and CDs. The DVD-A921 features 480p progressive scan output with 3/2 pull down and Memory Stick Interface.

All Samsung DVD players are capable of playback of DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 formats. Caddyshack featuring Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and Ted Knight tees up a barrel of laughs as it follows the comic adventures of Rodney Dangerfield at an exclusive country club. Driven sees Stallone take the fast lane in one of Americas most beloved competitions, auto racing. Playing a retired driver, Stallone returns to teach a rookie what it means to win in a world where men are constantly out to prove themselves. Thrilling high-speed chases and bone crushing crashes keep the adrenalin pumping.

Participating stores include Sears, Best Buy, Ultimate, J&R, Capital, Fries, Good Guys, and American TV.
