Philips Introduces New DVD-Recorders
New Players Let You Record Graduations, Weddings and Everyday Moments
And Copy and Store them on DVDs
Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Philips new DVD-Recorders let
consumers record special moments and occasions and make home movies to share
with friends and family. Boasting the latest in recording technology, Philips
Consumer Electronics today demonstrated two DVD-Recorders, based on DVD+RW
technology, at the annual Custom Electronic Design Installation Association
Show (CEDIA) in booth 610. Designed to be compatible with both existing and
future DVD-Video and DVD-ROM equipment, the DVDR1000 and DVDR1500 allow
consumers to create their own DVDs and play them back on most past, present
and future players.
"The new DVD-Recorders allow consumers to upgrade the quality of their home video collections. In addition, consumers finally have the ability to create their own personalized DVDs with just a touch of a button and playback their recorded DVD in nearly every brand of player," said Michael Lang, general manager, audio/video, Philips Consumer Electronics, North America.
"This is pure innovation at work here and the future of the way we record, view and preserve our most cherished memories and occasions."
Winner of the European Imaging and Sound Association's (EISA) award, the DVDR1000 comes in a stylish silver casing, while the DVDR1500 is a black component that includes the award-winning Philips Pronto Pro Intelligent Remote Control.
Both the DVDR1500 and DVDR1000 feature a built-in TV tuner and an AC-3 decoder/encoder for superior sound quality. For enhanced picture quality, the recorders use Variable Bitrate recording (VBR) with four different time settings. VBR adjusts the data rate of the recordings based on the amount of motion in the recorded material. In recordings with rapid movement, VBR decoding ensures high picture quality without pixelization. Both also utilize the Crystal Clear Pro Progressive Scan system with a sophisticated Motion Adaptive System (DCDi(TM) chip by Faroudja), which optimizes and corrects for artifacts, resulting in razor-sharp picture performance.
Record Your Child's Wedding to Share with Loved Ones
Philips' DVD1500 and DVD1000 feature multiple, easy-to-use recording options so anyone in the family can create a home movie. Consumers can create their own DVDs, recording up to two hours of content on a single 4.7 GB DVD+RW disc in DVD quality and up to four hours of better-than-VHS quality footage. For those who want to record even more content on a single disc, they can create a double-sided disc with a 9.4 GB capacity DVD, which allows a total of up to eight hours of quality, recording on a single disc.
For loved ones who miss the annual family reunion, Philips DVD-Recorders include a digital i.Link data transfer connection (IEEE1394) for transferring camcorder footage to DVD, preserving the recordings in perfect digital picture and sound quality. So, users can record the reunion and then make copies on their DVD player to send out to family members. The players also include a component video input for the best possible analog recordings so those who missed out on the fun won't miss a beat.
State-of-the-Art Recording Technology
Featuring a convenient editing capability, the recorders do not require special software, allowing users to do linear editing directly on the recorder, utilizing the television as a display.
With the DVD+RW format, the disc can be played immediately after recording -- no finalization is required, whereas other formats take minutes to process the disc after finalizing. To make the recording process as easy as possible for the consumer, the recorders create an index picture screen, which allows users to see what has been recorded, as well as how much space is available on the disc.
More Than Just A DVD-Recorder
DVD+RW media are interchangeable between the PC and TV platforms, which means that consumers can record something with their camcorder, copy it onto a DVD+RW disc with Philips DVDR1500 and DVDR1000 Video Recorders, edit it on a PC and play it back on most existing DVD-Video players and DVD-ROM drives. In addition to DVD+RW and DVD-Video discs, the DVDR1500 and DVDR1000 also are compatible with CD, CD-R, CD-RW, S-VCD and VCD discs.
