Philips Announces DesignLine Digital Widescreen TVs
Philips Consumer Electronics DesignLine 30" digital widescreen TVs ($2999) offer today's design-conscious consumers the most creative approach to television viewing since the introduction of the color TV. With three sophisticated colors, including lavender (30PW8859), ivory (30PW8869) and platinum (30PW8879), DesignLine has a color to match any consumer's lifestyle and decor. Each set features a 30" widescreen Real Flat picture tube, while making a powerful design statement with its fully integrated television stand combined with brushed-aluminum legs and a glass shelf. The storage space is ideal for accommodating audio/video components, such as a DVD-video player, audio receiver or Super Audio CD player.
As HDTV monitors, Philips DesignLine televisions are capable of displaying 1080i lines of resolution. To optimize picture quality, the Philips DesignLine incorporates the latest technologies, including Digital Crystal Clear, Progressive Scan and Active Control. Digital Crystal Clear analyzes and optimizes contrast, brightness and color for brilliant and true color picture reproduction. Philips' Progressive Scan line-doubling technology produces stable, flicker-free pictures for a more relaxing viewing experience with less eyestrain. Active Control ensures optimum picture quality – under all conditions, all the time. It analyzes all key picture elements and optimizes noise reduction, contrast, sharpness and color-enhancement levels based on a source's signal strength and quality, while adjusting picture elements more than 50 times per second.
The Philips DesignLine series utilizes a widescreen or 16:9 format, as opposed to the traditional square-like 4:3 format. This format is truer to the movie theater presentation and allows the audience to experience the original film intact, the way the director intended. With a variety of widescreen format ratios available today, easy-to-use features – such as Auto Format and Auto Screen Fit -– were developed to maximize the use of all widescreen format ratios. By analyzing incoming signals and determining the picture format, the signal is automatically configured to fill the screen accordingly.
For superior audio performance, each DesignLine set features a pair of built-in speakers driven by a 20-Watt amplifier. The integrated surround-sound system includes Virtual Dolby, a decoder that creates a virtual surround-sound experience from only two speaker channels.
