Panasonic Introduces Industry's First SD Micro System

August 29, 2005 -- Demonstrating its continuing commitment to today's digital lifestyle, Panasonic introduces the new SC-PM71 SD Micro System -- the first home audio system capable of recording and playing music from an SD Memory Card. The SC-PM71SD, featuring a 5-CD player, lets users listen to their favorite music from a variety of digital sources, transfer music onto an SD card, and even includes a companion portable digital audio player (model SV-SD90) and a 1GB SD Memory Card to take the music with them.

"With this sleek, compact micro system duo, you don't need a PC or any special software to record from CD to SD Memory Card; simply press a button to start recording 5 CDs onto an SD Memory Card and off you go with hundreds of great sounding songs," says Jim Kiczek, national marketing manager of Panasonic Home Audio. "You can also record tapes or radio programs. It's the ultimate solution for today's on-the-go digital music lifestyle."

The new five-CD system is a high-tech, high-fashion addition to any personal area: bedroom, home office or even a dorm room. It features 4X high-speed CD to SD Memory Card recording, SD Audio and CD-R/RW(1), MP3(2), WMA(3) playback. Three different compression choices are offered for recording. The system also supports HighMAT technology, which was co-developed by Panasonic and Microsoft. HighMAT makes it easier to play back personal music, photos and video collections and is fully backwards compatible with existing media formats.

For powerful bass reproduction, the new model is highlighted by a Hybrid Bi-Amp System that effectively boosts power for delivering rich, virtually distortion-free bass, while the main speakers accurately reproduce the mid/high range. Additional bass response comes from Panasonic's exclusive H. Bass (harmonized bass) technology. The new compact audio system packs 160 watts of total power -- 40W/ch (1 kHz, 6 ohms, 10% THD) - into one convenient package.

The model is accented by sophisticated silver speaker grilles with light-toned wood speakers. A convenient blue backlit, five-line dot matrix display shows the SD or CD track being played.

Included Companion Digital Audio Player
Measuring only 1.7 inches square and sporting a sleek mirror finish, the accompanying portable audio player is the ultimate fashion accessory. Unlike other digital audio players, the ultra-compact SV-SD90 has a durable form factor with no moving parts and a consumer-replaceable, rechargeable battery. When turned on, the elegant mirror front reveals a "floating" organic EL display for showing playback information.

The SV-SD90 includes a host of sound enhancing features. It incorporates Panasonic's D-Sound technology for outstanding music reproduction, Digital Audio Gain control (D-AGC) and S-XBS for a powerful surround-sound effect and clear bass without distortion. In addition, Digital Re-Master compensates for lost frequency when data is compressed in WMA or MP3 and restores music data to reproduce sound almost equivalent to CD quality. The included earphones feature a reshaped housing and increased speaker diameter to deliver expansive sound. A 1GB SD Memory Card is included.

The new SC-PM71SD micro system and digital audio player duo was developed by Panasonic to provide music lovers with the latest digital technology for optimum lifestyle enjoyment. It will be available in September with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $399.95.
