Onkyo Delivers Trio of Progressive Scan DVD Players
9/19/02 - Onkyo has introduced three modestly-priced DVD players that deliver high quality audio and video performance, featuring progressive scan for HD-quality video output, and 192 kHz/24-bit digital to analog converters for exceptional audio reproduction. Two of the models are single-play units, and the third is a five-disc carousel changer.
The full capabilities of today's High Definition displays and meticulous DVD software can only be experienced with DVD players that generate a progressive-scan video output. In addition to DVD audio/video reproduction, Onkyo's entire line of DVD players are also capable of playing CDs, CD-R/CD-RWs, and even MP3 encoded CDs.
The sophisticated DACs used in these players operate at 192 kHz sample rate, providing smoother and more realistic audio reproduction than conventional 96 kHz converters. The rear-panel digital outputs feature the company's excusive Direct Digital Path, so digital signals can be passed to outboard processors (such a those on a home theater receiver) without the degradation caused by redundant signal processing.
The entry-level DV-SP300 has a suggested retail price of just $200. The step-up DV-SP500 also includes Onkyo's Vector Linear Shaping Circuit (VLSC), which generates a smoother output than conventional analog filtering circuits, and is available at a suggested retail price of $300. The DV-CP500 five-disc DVD changer includes true-random playback so it can be used as a CD jukebox, and is available at a suggested retail price of $300. All models are currently available.
