Omnifi Ushers in Next Video Generation With Wireless DMS2 Streamer

February 2004 – Omnifi, the system that gives users access to all their music when they want it, where they want it, and without being tethered to cumbersome wires, will soon ship a new home entertainment model that streams high resolution video to multiple rooms throughout the house.

The DMS2 (SRP: $349, available Q3 ‘04) uses 802.11G wireless technology or ethernet to stream files – including DVD-quality MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DIVX, and XVID – from PC hard drives to Omnifi receivers that are connected to standard home entertainment receivers and television monitors.

Similar to the currently available DMS1, the new model also streams MP3, WMA, and WAV audio files, making it easy to select and play literally thousands of songs through existing home entertainment systems. In addition, the DMS2 features a high-resolution mode that displays JPEG photos and other digital still image formats on video displays, with rich and vivid detail that is particularly evident on 1080i flat screen monitors.

Omnifi relies on SimpleDevice’s proprietary SimpleCenter software and a supplied antenna to wirelessly stream video, audio, and image files stored on a PC to DMS2 receivers throughout the home. Also, users can store media on the DMS2’s removable 60GB Omnifi Drive Cartridge. The built-in drive bay makes it easy to swap cartridges, allowing users to build a substantial collection of stored programming. SimpleCenter automatically synchronizes the user’s media files to the Drive Cartridge.
