OEM Interface Mates Blaupunkt CD Changers to Factory Car Stereos

Blaupunkt has introduced the first of a line of inexpensive adapters that will allow its CD changers to be compatible with car maker's factory-installed cassette or CD car stereos. The first of these adapters will allow millions of 1998 and later model Fords to add a Blaupunkt CD changer without having to replace their in-dash car stereo -- and for much less than the cost of a factory CD changer. In today's automotive market, most consumers end up buying the car-maker's factory audio systems even though they are usually more expensive than comparable aftermarket systems. If the customer wants a CD changer, they must often order the more expensive premium sound package, which adds significantly to the average monthly payment. The cost of adding a factory CD changer after the initial car purchase is much higher than basic cost of an aftermarket changer, but the customer must then also buy a new in-dash radio that can control the changer.

Blaupunkt's new OEM CDC (CD Changer) interfaces will enable the company's IDC-A09 5-disc in-dash changer or CDC-A08 10 disc magazine-style CD changer to work with the majority of factory sound systems. In a Ford Mustang, for example, Blaupunkt's IDC-A09 5 disc in-dash changer can replace the useless pocket that is underneath the factory stereo.

These interfaces are very thoroughly integrated with the OEM operating system. For example, when connecting the CDC-A08 to a Ford CDC receiver, all 10 discs are indicated on the factory radio's display in spite of the fact that the factory CDC has only 6 discs.

The currently-available Blaupunkt CDC Interface 1 works with most Ford models 1998 and up; Interface 2 is for Ford Focus, Mercury Cougar, and Jaguar models 1998 and up. Additional OEM CDC interfaces for other car makers will follow shortly. www.blaupunkt.com.
