New SANYO DVD Players Filter Foul Language
Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ --
Zoran Corporation (Nasdaq: ZRAN) and Principal Solutions have delivered TV
Guardian for SANYO's new line of DVD players. TV Guardian technology expands
the family's home entertainment choices by allowing parents to filter
inappropriate language from TV and DVD programming.
Zoran and Principal Solutions co-developed the software that enables the
TV Guardian application on the Vaddis-based SANYO DVD player product line. TV
Guardian offers parents more flexibility and precise control over TV viewing
than does V-Chip technology currently in TVs or the standard DVD-player
parental rating system. The application allows parents to easily select
preprogrammed alternative language choices to replace "adult language" with
wording more appropriate for family viewing.
Zoran's Vaddis home entertainment server acts as the convergence backbone for manufacturers wanting to implement television, digital camera or other multimedia applications, such as TV Guardian or PictureCD, on their DVD player product lines.
"We chose Zoran's Vaddis for our new line of DVD players because we wanted to offer, in addition to high quality audio and video, improved family entertainment options to our customers. We believe the TV Guardian application that Zoran co-developed with Principal Solutions is important to parents and we wanted to be one of the first to offer it to consumers," said Mr. Tsuneharu Tamatani, general manager at SANYO Technosound Co., Ltd.
"Zoran, as a major supplier to the DVD market, made a perfect partner for Principle Solutions to quickly deliver the TV Guardian capability to DVD manufacturers. By implementing this technology, SANYO is giving parents worldwide peace of mind knowing that their children will not be exposed to foul language, even when they have not been able to preview a movie," said Britt Muhlig, director at Principal Solutions.
"SANYO's decision to offer TV Guardian on their new line of DVD players will give parents around the world piece of mind during family home entertainment experiences," said Michael Wood, vice president and general manager Home Entertainment Division at Zoran Corporation. "Zoran's vision is to offer home entertainment server capabilities that empower our DVD product manufacturers to implement applications that enhance the consumer's experience across all market segments even in the lower priced players."
