New Flat Panel TV’s
Plasma and LCD TV’s, otherwise known as Flat Panel TV’s are going up in quality and coming down in price. Here is a look at what’s state of the art in high tech televisions.
Flat panel TV’s are the hottest consumer technology right now but a lot of people don’t realize there are two different types of flat panel TV’s. LCD TV’s are like an overgrown laptop screen although much higher in quality. Whereas with the newer Plasma TV’s, each individual pixel is like a gas charged tube.
Flat panel TV’s are one of the most interesting products the consumer electronics industry has ever come out with. There are a lot of reasons to buy one, picture quality being one of them but the esthetic quality is the number one reason why people buy flat panels -- they can hang them on the wall and it totally recreates the atmosphere of the room. It’s a new way of viewing television and creating an entertainment experience in your home.
Plasma TV’s are getting more affordable, finally within the reach of consumers. Zenith is one company addressing HDTV, not only with Plasma but in a variety of technologies. They’re really pushing CRT based high definition televisions and this year true HDTV television with built in HD tuners are available for under $1000.
Another leader in flat panel TV’s is Sharp Electronics. Sharp’s new LC15-L1U is a wireless AQUOS television. It has a built in battery that will last for about 3 hours. On top of that it has a back channel so you can take it outside -- if you’re running a DVD inside your house, you can take the remote control from your DVD and actually control your DVD from outside on the deck, from the bedroom, from out by the pool, wherever you want. It goes to about 100 feet. It will be available in January of 2004 for $1799.
