New DVD-Audio Version of Porcupine Tree’s In Absentia

February 2004 -- DTS (Digital Theater Systems, Inc.) just announced a March 9th street date for the DVD-Audio version of Porcupine Tree's critically acclaimed album, In Absentia. Known for their unique blend of rock, atmospherics, songwriting, and dark intellectual cool, Porcupine Tree is a British band whose goal is to dissolve the boundaries between different music genres.

Originally released on compact disc by Lava Records in September 2002, In Absentia is Porcupine Tree's most accomplished and complete work to date. The album has received great praise worldwide, and has gone on to become the band?s best-selling album: The DTSE 5.1 surround DVD-Audio release of In Absentia adds a wealth of new features, including:

  • Exclusive surround re-mixes of all 12 original songs
  • DVD-Audio tracks, plus DTS 5.1 for DVD-Video players
  • Bonus tracks: "Drown With Me," "Chloroform," and "Futile"
  • Three original music videos, synced to DTS 5.1 Digital Surround
  • On-screen lyrics and artist photo gallery

"While the art of re-mixing music into 5.1 surround continues to evolve, this is exactly the kind of project that will help take it to a whole new level," said David DelGrosso, DTSE Vice President of Marketing. "Both the artist and manager were hands-on through every step of this surround production, resulting in a new creative expression that dramatically amplifies the depth and power of this exceptional album."

"I've worked with a lot of bands throughout my career, and it's been decades since I've encountered one with this much talent," added multi-award winning engineer, Elliott Scheiner. "Mixing this record into surround was more fun than I've had in years, and it sounds great in a 5.1 automobile sound system."

Porcupine Tree is comprised of Steven Wilson (lead vocals, guitar); Richard Barbieri (keyboards); Colin Edwin (bass) and Gavin Harrison (drums and percussion.) Together since 1993, the band is one of the UK's most respected, pioneering underground forces with a following that spans the globe.

Billboard describes Porcupine Tree's music as "cinematic... simply gorgeous," while college radio bible CMJ compares Porcupine Tree to "a complete voyage... inspired as an Apollo mission."
