NEC Technologies First to Mass Produce 61\" Plasma Monitor
$27,995 SRP and July 2001 Ship Date Give Customers First Opportunity To
Purchase a Plasma Monitor Larger than 60"
June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- INFOCOMM -- NEC Technologies cements
its position as the leader among plasma display manufacturers with the
introduction of the PlasmaSync(R) 61MP1, the world's first 61" plasma display.
With the 61MP1, NEC Technologies becomes the first plasma manufacturer to break the 60" screen size barrier with a product that will be mass produced and available for purchase before the end of July 2001. Incorporating features that only NEC offers, such as split-screen capability and digital zoom, the 61MP1's superior screen size enables users to make presentations to larger groups or from longer distances while retaining the image quality, sleek profile and easy wall mountability of an XGA plasma monitor.
"The market has been eagerly anticipating the next jump in screen size beyond the current 50" level for over a year," said Scott Evans, product marketing manager at NEC Technologies for Visual Systems. "And with the PlasmaSync 61MP1, NEC Technologies is pleased to be the first plasma manufacturer to initiate mass production and make this new benchmark for screen size available for sale in the market."
Innovative Features Enhance Multimedia Presentation Use
NEC Technologies' plasma displays are acclaimed for their advanced design, having won the PresentationMaster.com and KNews Best of 2000 Best Monitor Innovation award for staying ahead of the curve in plasma design and innovation. The PlasmaSync 61MP1 continues this trend, offering Wide XGA 1365 x 768 native resolution with square pixels. This higher resolution allows users to display more information on screen, which is key for computer-based applications. The display also boasts superior image quality enhanced by NEC Technologies' patented Capsulated Color Filter(TM) technology, which delivers realistic color reproduction, and by AccuBlend(TM) scan conversion technology, which enables sharp display of high resolution images up to UXGA. In addition, the 61MP1 features exceptional contrast and brightness performance with a 600 cd/m peak panel brightness and set contrast ratio of 700:1.
Advanced video signal processing features, including a motion compensated 3D scan converter for smooth, lifelike video and a 2/3 pull down converter that allows users to smoothly display source content recorded in 24 frames per second film, are also included.
Other industry-leading features built into the PlasmaSync 61MP1 include:

Other industry-leading features built into the PlasmaSync 61MP1 include:
- Split-Screen Multi-Source Display Capability: The 61MP1 features a split-screen function that allows the simultaneous display of multiple sources on-screen, making it ideal for multi-tasking and work-group collaboration requirements. The monitor offers several split-screen and picture-in-picture display options and enables users to display 4:3 and 16:9 images concurrently. The 4:3 capability enables users to show 1024 x 768 computer sources in their standard aspect ratio.
- Broad Source Compatibility: The 61MP1 can accommodate composite, component and S-Video as well as all of the important HDTV signal formats. It is also compatible with computer graphics standards up to UXGA, making it able to handle virtually any laptop in the conference room as readily as workstation sources in CAD and control room environments.
- Multimedia Capability with Built-In Stereo Audio: The PlasmaSync 61MP1 includes an internal stereo amplifier and optional attachable speakers that match the monitor's cabinet design. This provides seamlessly integrated audio capabilities, further enhancing the monitor's cache in multimedia applications.
- AccuShield(TM) Phosphor Protection: This exclusive technology provides built-in support for minimizing phosphor burn, which can occur in any phosphor-based display device. It includes an Inverse Mode that can be selected to display inverted RGB color values, evening the amount of wear on the screen's phosphor and reducing the visibility of retained images.
Furthermore, the PlasmaSync 61MP1 has a digital zoom feature which enables presenters to select an area of the screen and enlarge it up to 3 times, making even the smallest text visible to an entire room. The user-friendly display also operates with a virtually silent 22 db of fan noise and can be controlled directly via its front bezel controls as well as by its ergonomically designed remote. Additionally, the PlasmaSync 61MP1 comes equipped with a DVI digital input. The new display can also be mounted in portrait or landscape orientation.
Pricing and Availability
The PlasmaSync 61MP1 display will be available in July 2001 through the NEC Technologies network of authorized AV Integrators and Specialty Value Added Distributors. The suggested retail price of the plasma monitor is $27,995. Information on the company and its products can be obtained by calling 877-NEC-EDIT or by visiting the Web at http://www.nectech.com .
