Marantz Selects Cirrus Logic to Power New High Performance A/V Receivers

Dec. 9, 2002-- Marantz America, a premier supplier of specialist audio and high-end video components for nearly 50 years, has selected Cirrus Logic (Nasdaq: CRUS) to provide digital signal processing and audio conversion capabilities for a family of new audio/video receivers (AVRs) that offers exceptional performance across a range of consumer price points.

Marantz's Cirrus-powered, 6.1-channel SR7300, SR6300, SR5300 and SR4300 receivers are upgraded versions of popular, previously released models. The new receivers feature higher power output and greater compatibility with the latest surround sound formats, such as 6.1 Dolby Digital EX and Dolby Pro Logic II. The units also include enhancements such as 24-bit, 192 kHz digital-to-analog conversion on all channels (all models except the SR4300) and other advanced features.

The enhancements are made possible by Cirrus Logic's CS49400 digital signal processor (DSP), which powers the SR7300 model, and by Cirrus' CS49329 DSP, which powers the SR6300, SR5300 and SR4300 models.

The CS49400 is one of the industry's highest performance single-chip audio processing solutions, and supports a wide range of state-of-the-art surround sound formats and sound enhancement programs. The part delivers a comprehensive, integrated solution that produces extraordinary sonic realism for high-performance, high-volume consumer systems.

"This design win reinforces Cirrus Logic's leadership position in the AVR space and continues our strong working relationship with Marantz America," said Terry Leeder, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Cirrus Logic. "The design win also underscores Cirrus' Total-E solutions strategy by including our CS5361 analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and CS4382 digital-to-analog converters (DACs) in the Marantz system solution."

Cirrus' CS5361 converter is ideal for all audio applications requiring wide dynamic range, negligible distortion and low noise. It delivers a 192 kHz sampling rate and 114 dB dynamic range. The CS4382 DAC supports eight channel audio and offers performance distinction by providing the highest dynamic range (114dB) and the lowest distortion (0.0009%) available in today's multi-channel converter market.

The new Marantz receivers are available now at specialty audio retailers throughout the United States.
