First 60-inch Plasma Display Now Available

FP581 MonitorThe first 60-inch plasma display available in the U.S. and one of the world's largest hang-on-the-wall monitors is being demonstrated for the first time at CEDIA EXPO 2001: The Custom Home Electronic Design and Installation Show, this week in Indianapolis. Zenith is launching the DPDP60W 60-inch Plasma Display Panel (PDP) HDTV Monitor, which allows custom installers to offer clients a fresh new option by bringing the drama and scale of big-screen home theater to rooms or locations unsuitable for deeper conventional TVs or front projectors.

The lightweight DPDP60W, which began shipping last month, is as big as four 30-inch wide television screens combined. It employs a 60-inch widescreen (16:9) PDP capable of delivering outstanding digital HDTV images, making it a must-have for today's home theater enthusiast.

The giant PDP was designed to produce whiter whites and darker darks than previously possible, achieving an impressive contrast ratio of 330:1. The monitor displays rich, full-color images using a palette of 16.7 million colors, with peak brightness capability of 180 candles/square meter.

The monitor's high 1280 x 720p resolution capability assures outstanding quality from built-in HD, NTSC, VGA, SVGA and XGA video and digital source inputs, and makes it fully compatible with DVDs, computers, digital broadcasting and multimedia, as well as traditional video sources.

Built-in image scaling capabilities allow the intelligent resizing of video and computer images to 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 conventional aspect ratios, as well as use of a picture zoom feature. Gray side panels mask images displayed in 4:3 mode, while a wide 160-degree viewing angle assures maximum visibility in home theater, office and room environments.

Soft-touch screen controls and a universal remote control, featuring a Thumbstick pointing device, complement the monitor's handsome brushed silver cabinet. Optional accessories enable the DPDP60W to be mounted on a wall, on a matching table or desktop-style pedestal. Audio enhancements include Dolby Digital and a matching pair of 10-watt speakers.

The DPDP60W joins Zenith's DPDP40V Monitor, a 40-inch display designed to deliver the outstanding picture performance and compact size of a PDP at a more accessible price. The 4:3 monitor's brilliantly illumined screen is enhanced by a peak brightness level of 370 cd/sqm, and an extraordinary contrast ratio of 500:1.

Its resolution of 640 x 480p assures a high-quality picture from NTSC, EDTV, VGA and SVGA video and data input sources. A well-equipped connection panel makes the monitor fully compatible with DVDs, computers, digital broadcasting and multimedia, and traditional video sources.

Soft-touch screen controls and a remote control complement the DPD40V's brushed silver cabinet, which can be mounted on a tabletop pedestal (included) or, optionally, on a wall. A wide 160-degree viewing angle assures maximum visibility in almost any environment. Fan-free and noise-free, it consumes just 350 watts of power.

The DPDP60W 60-inch HDTV Monitor is available now from Zenith dealers at a suggested price of $24,999.95. The DPDP40V 40-inch EDTV Monitor is available now, selling for $6,999.
