Disney Launches New Line of Video & Audio ProductsMay 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Disney Consumer Products is bringing to market Disney-branded video and audio products that combine Disney's unparalleled entertainment content with leading technology, it was announced today by Andy Mooney, chairman of Disney Consumer Products Worldwide. The products, currently hitting store shelves in North America, have been created in conjunction with frog design and will be manufactured and distributed by Memcorp Inc., makers of Memorex consumer electronics. The six new Disney Electronics products include a 13" color television, DVD player, personal digital radio, stereo CD boombox, personal CD player and clock radio. The items join the Motorola/Disney FRS 2-way radio and 2.4 GHz cordless phone that debuted in fall 2002, kicking off Disney's consumer electronics initiative. All products are specifically designed for ages 6 and older, but have robust features that make them enjoyable for the entire family. The new Disney Electronics will initially be available at Circuit City, Sears and Target. "The introduction of new audio and video products indicates our continued commitment to developing an entire family of Disney Electronics that bring magic and innovation to the segment," said Mooney. "It makes perfect sense for Disney to produce real electronic products for children that not only have features inspired by Disney characters, but also provide an ideal way to showcase Disney's entertainment content." Added Barry Smith, chairman and CEO of Memcorp, "Statistics show that the majority of parents take a child's preference into account when purchasing electronics. We see that the children's consumer electronics segment is virtually unaddressed by other manufacturers, therefore, it is a natural fit for products to be developed that cater to a child's preferences while offering the quality and magic expected from Disney." frog design, the global design firm behind Disney Electronics, again incorporated into each product unique Disney elements and leading technology. "The new Disney Electronics further combine the emotional appeal of Disney's brand and characters with a very innovative technical design -- especially in the easy-to-use interface that was created exclusively for Disney," said Hartmut Esslinger, co-CEO of frog design. "They are 'serious' electronics, but we have made them fun." The functionality of each Disney Electronics product is tailored to be appropriate for a child's sensibility and world. The unique personalities of Disney characters are incorporated into each product; however, character art is not displayed on their colorful exterior. Disney Electronics are available in two models: the red and yellow Classic model inspired by Mickey Mouse and his friends, and the pink and lavender Princess model derived from Disney's timeless princesses. Additionally, a Disney/Pixar Buzz & Beyond model is offered in white, purple and green and is born from the Disney/Pixar Toy Story franchise.
