Cirrus Logic Enables Samsung to Deliver a Combo PVR/DVD Player
Jan. 22, 2002-- Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq:CRUS) announces that Samsung Electronics has developed a combination Personal Video Recorder (PVR)/DVD player based on the Cirrus Logic CS92288 MPEG Audio/Video Codec chip as incorporated into Cirrus Logic's Encore reference design. Samsung's new DVD-H40 is the forerunner of a new product category that combines popular digital entertainment features into a single, compact and affordable consumer device.
The Cirrus CS92288 codec allows Samsung to offer high-quality DVD playback with popular PVR viewing control features, including the ability to pause and replay live broadcasts. The advanced audio/video compression capabilities of the codec also enable consumers to control the choice between video quality and storage demands.
