Aperion Audio Expands Home Theater Speaker Line

Formerly EdgeAudio, the company announces the SW-8PR/150, a new cube subwoofer with a 150-watt amplifier and two eight-inch passive radiators.
SW-8PR Subwoofer June 4, 2001 — Web-based home theater speaker specialist Aperion Audio (formerly EdgeAudio) today expanded its product line with the introduction of a new eight-inch, 150-watt powered subwoofer that establishes a new benchmark in value. The new SW-8PR/150 delivers powerful, room-filling bass from a one-cubic-foot speaker featuring state-of-the-art cabinet construction and wrapped in furniture-grade wood, all for less than $400.00.

Measuring just over one cubic foot, the new Aperion Audio SW-8PR/150 is a high performance subwoofer that’s compact enough for use in even the smallest room. It will be available in July but can be ordered immediately directly from the company at www.aperionaudio.com for a list price of $387.00. It is also available in various system configurations, packaged with Aperion Audio’s 502D satellite speakers, which feature patented DiAural® technology. A 5.1-channel home theater system comprised of five matching 502D satellite speakers and one SW-8PR/150 is priced at $1,199.00.

The Aperion Audio SW-8PR/150 features a 150-watt amplifier, a front-firing eight-inch driver and two eight-inch passive radiators that eliminate the “chuffing” noise sometimes associated with vented enclosures. Five-way binding posts are provided for high level inputs and outputs, and RCA connectors for low level inputs and outputs. Other features include a crossover variable between 40Hz and 180Hz, level control, phase switch, three-position power switch and a detachable power cord. Frequency response is 35 – 180Hz and sensitivity is rated at 88 dB.

The SW-8PR/150 also features Aperion Audio’s new dual composition enclosure, comprised of an interior built using one-inch HDF (high density fiberboard) that is heavier and more uniform in density than wood or other commonly used materials. This lessens cabinet vibration and sonic distortion, resulting in smoother frequency response. The exterior is made of cherry hardwood stained to a medium cherry furniture-grade finish. The subwoofer measures 13 (H) X 12.25 (W) X 12.5 (D) inches and weighs 27.5 pounds.

“With the introduction of our new eight-inch cube subwoofer we can offer a very affordable home theater system that fits easily into a smaller room, yet delivers performance and aesthetics usually found in speakers costing much more,” said Win Jeanfreau, Aperion Audio president and founder. “Our one-inch thick cabinet goes beyond the industry standard to provide the rigid construction necessary to ensure the best possible performance, while the quality of our cherry finish provides a degree of elegance unknown at that price.”

Founded in 1999 as EdgeAudio, Inc., Aperion Audio is based in Tigard, Oregon, a suburb of Portland. The company’s products are sold exclusively through the Internet via Aperion Audio’s own website and selected other online merchants, including Amazon.com and eCost.com. The company’s line of home theater speakers includes satellite speakers that feature patented DiAural® circuitry in place of a conventional crossover to produce a phase-coherent sound, free of the distortion and sonic artifacts created by traditional crossovers.
