New CES Tech That Could Make Your Gear Obsolete

We're just back from the consumer electronics extravaganza in Las Vegas where we saw some amazing new gadgets and gear including new TVs, tablets, smartphones and new high tech automobiles. Much of the technology we saw may not be available for some time (if at all) but we did see some trends that will sooner or later make many of your high tech possessions obsolete.

Future TVs Will Be Sharper

4K HDTVs A year ago at CES 2011 we saw just a few 4K resolution HDTVs but at this year's show we saw lots more. Full HD is defined as 1920 x 1080 but he next generation standard will double that to 3840 x 2160 which they are calling 4K (4K x 2K). Just as everyone who saw HD when it first came out could see a big difference between its higher resolution and older standard definition TVs, once you see 4K TVs you'll want one. Yes, it will take new production equipment, new distribution methods and present all kinds of challenges but isn't that what the industry thrives on?Read more

Sportec Slams the Audi S4 Avant with 425hp

 Sportec Audi S4 Avant

Tuner firm, Sportec has added an extra 92hp to this ride. However, its 0-62mph is only 0.1 seconds quicker. But, other areas of performance have improved much more. In-gear acceleration, rolling acceleration and everyday driving will all be improved by the extra power. So, race this in a rolling start.

You can outfit this Audi with a customizable body kit and 19- or 20-inch rims. Other options include lowering it 30mm, adding stiffer springs and upgrading the brakes, too. Also, you can pick and choose what you want from Sportec, opting for a giant package with everything or just add a body kit and lower it some and save some cash.

Sportec hasn't officially announced the prices for everything or when they plan to sell these mods just yet.

Senner Tuning Launches their Audi A5 Package

 Senner Tuning Audi A5

Senner Tuning is well known for their subtle and unique tuning packages. They add minor visual upgrades to create a clean, non-tacky, look. Senner offers a wide range of front and rear fascias, side skirts and roof spoilers for the Audi A5. The new pieces are designed to fit and enhance the stylish coupe, with special pieces for the high-performance S5 model.

The two-piece front spoiler kit only works on non-S-line models, however. Additionally, Senner offers 20- or 21-inch wheels for the A5. Other modifications include a fully adjustable Bilstein B16 PSS10 coilover suspension kit and a new stainless steel exhaust system with quad tailpipes (only for non-quattro models).

It looks like Senner Tuning has created another unique and tasteful tuning package for the automotive industry; this time for the Audi A5.

MTM Mods the Audi A4 Supercharged S4 Avant

 Audi A4 supercharged S4 Avant

MTM is probably most known for strapping two engines to an Audi TT in order to set a speed record. Thus, MTM is definitely an "all-out" tuner that I have come to respect due to their innovative/insane projects.

The new Audi S4 AVANT is the most powerful Audi S car out right now. The V6 3.0L supercharged engine will be boosted from 333hp (248kW) to 430hp (320kW) and 380lb-ft (515Nm) of torque. With the new engine upgrades this Audi will run from 0-100km/h (62moph) in just 4.7 seconds!

MTM also offers a custom exhaust kit, bimoto wheels (19- and 21-inch), MTM height adjustable suspension and performance brakes with 380mm discs and 8-piston calipers. Currently, MTM has not announced the specifics of the engine upgrades or any prices on these modifications. We might learn more at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September, though.

Mod the New Audi TT-RS ECU and Push it to 400hp!

 Onkyo Audi TT-RS

That's exactly what Mcchip did. Mcchip is a German tuner that specializes in modifying vehicle's ECU and engine management systems. The standard 2.5L turbocharged Audi TT-RS produces 340hp and 325lb-ft of torque. Mcchip can tweak the ECU to produce 380hp or 400hp and the torque can see a bump up to 406lb-ft. Pretty impressive for a 2.5L engine.

With this extra boost in power, the Audi TT-RS can reach a top speed of 186mph (31mph faster from stock) and run 0-62mph in just 4.1 seconds (0.5 seconds swifter). Read more

New Lotus Esprit to be highly competitive with the Audi R8 and Lamborghini LP560-4?

 Lotus Esprit sketch

According to rumors flying around, it seems that the 2012 Lotus Esprit will come equipped with the 200+ mph capable, 4.8-liter 500 horsepower V10 engine from the Lexus LF-A or the 5.0-liter, 417 horsepower V8 from the Lexus IS-F. There's also a rumor that an entry-level model might appear featuring the 300-horsepower direct-injection Toyota V6 engine.

Aside from these rumors, it looks like Lotus is working very closely with Tesla Motors or creating eco-friendly variants of its cars. Would you really care about an electric/hybrid Lotus Esprit when you could buy one with a 500 horsepower engine? Plus, with prices the way they are, both types would probably cost the same.

ABT Sportsline Tunes the Audi A3

 Audi A3

German tuner, ABT Sportsline, has turned its attention away from Volkswagens, for a second, and set its sights on the Audi A3. The various ABT AS3 engines will receive a 35 – 50hp gain.

The 2.0L TSI engine will produce 240hp (179kW), 160hp (120kW) in the 1.4L TSI engine and 210hp (157kW) in the 1.8L TSI unit. The 2.0L turbo diesel engine will produce 190hp (142kW), along with "plenty of torque."Read more
