Apple Sells Over One Million iPhone 3GS Models

 Apple iPhone 3G S

June 22, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Apple today announced that it has sold over one million iPhone 3GS models through Sunday, June 21, the third day after its launch. In addition, six million customers have downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software in the first five days since its release.

"Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "With over 50,000 applications available from Apple's revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever."

The new iPhone 3GS is the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet, packed with incredible new features including improved speed and performance -- up to twice as fast as iPhone 3G -- with longer battery life, a high-quality 3 megapixel autofocus camera, easy to use video recording and hands free voice control. iPhone 3GS includes the new iPhone OS 3.0, the world's most advanced mobile operating system with over 100 new features such as Cut, Copy and Paste, MMS*, Spotlight Search, landscape keyboard and more. iPhone 3GS customers get access to more than 50,000 applications from Apple's revolutionary App Store, the largest application store in the world where customers have already downloaded over one billion apps. iPhone 3GS offers twice the capacity for the same price with a 16GB model for just $199 and a new 32GB model for just $299.** And iPhone 3G is available at the breakthrough price of just $99 for the 8GB model -- a huge milestone for the high end smartphone market.Read more

Upgrade from the iPhone 3G to 3G S for $199 (Maybe)

 Apple iPhone 3G S

If you are an iPhone 3G owner wanting to upgrade to the 3G S, AT&T just announced that they will lower the price to $199 for some iPhone owners wanting to upgrade. The catch is this – the lower price will apply for customers who would have qualified for the "new buyer" price between now and September. If that's not you, expect to pay $399 for the upgrade.

Customers qualify for the "new buyer" price after a certain period, determined by how much the monthly plan is (and if payments are current). If you pay at least $100 a month, you would usually qualify 12 to 18 months after purchase, AT&T said. But, since the 3G went on sale about 11 months ago, current 3G owners wouldn't qualify for the "new buyer" price. So, Apple is actually (surprise!) letting you get the upgrade a little bit early (that is, if you qualify).

In other iPhone news, Apple announced that they will be opening their Apple retail stores at 7am on Friday (an hour earlier than they originally planned). AT&T stores will open at 7am for those that have preordered the 3G S, 9am for those who haven't. Phones will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Get Unlimited Calling; Pay Only for Days Used

Pantech Slate

AT&T has a new prepaid calling option available for GoPhone customers. Available today, the new GoPhone Unlimited Calling plan gives you unlimited calling for just $3 a day. I bet you're wondering what's so special about a plan that runs about $90 a month for unlimited calling, right? Well…with this new plan, you get unlimited nationwide calling and pay the three dollars a day ONLY on the days you use the service.

This sounds like the perfect plan for parents who have a younger child and want to be able to keep in touch with them when they're away, but not give them a phone for everyday use. I specifically mention "younger" children because this unlimited calling plan does not include text messaging…if you want that, add an additional $0.20 per text sent and received. That could get mighty costly if you have a teenager in the house.

The new plan has no roaming or long distance fees on the company's national wireless network, making it an affordable option for customers who prefer a "Pay As You Go" package.

For those who primarily call other AT&T mobile subscribers, they also have an Unlimited Mobile-to-Mobile plan, which provides unlimited calling to and from all AT&T wireless customers, and $0.10 for all other calls, for $1 a day.Read more

Nokia E71x With AT&T in Stores Across the U.S. Today

 Nokia E71x

May 4, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Nokia announced that the slimmest smartphone on the market, the Nokia E71x, will be available in AT&T retail stores and online beginning today. Priced at just USD 99.99*, this much-anticipated full QWERTY smartphone arrives at a time when one in two people surveyed** say they would prefer to communicate via text message or email over phone calls.

"The trend for messaging, whether email, IM, texting or social networking, is stronger than ever - we are seeing a real shift in the way people prefer to communicate," says David Petts, Vice President and General Manager, AT&T Account, Nokia. "The E71x is one of the most stylish and sophisticated QWERTY smartphones on the market, and it's the ideal companion for people who enjoy easy messaging and connecting with their friends. We are thrilled to now bring this sleek smartphone to people across the United States with AT&T."

In a recent survey conducted with 500 American adults aged 18 and above, 52 percent said they would prefer to use texting or emailing if they had to use only one communication method for two weeks. The option of only making voice calls for two weeks trailed behind at 40 percent, according to the people surveyed. The survey, commissioned by Nokia, looked at the way people use messaging and social networking on their mobile devices.Read more

AT&T Keeps Parents and Kids Connected With New AT&T FamilyMap Tool and Affordable New Devices

 AT&T FamilyMap and phone

April 15, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Staying "dialed" into your kids has never meant more. AT&T* today announced the availability of AT&T FamilyMap, a new tool that makes it easy to locate a family member's phone via web browser on a PC or mobile device. In addition, AT&T announced a new Mother's Day promotion featuring three Samsung quick messaging phones, each with a full keyboard that makes it easier to stay in touch, whether through text messaging, e-mail or AT&T FamilyMap.

AT&T FAMILYMAP

For on-the-go families, AT&T FamilyMap is a convenient new tool that lets customers see the location of family members on a map from a PC or AT&T wireless phone.

The service enables users to see details such as location on a map and surrounding landmarks like schools and parks. Users can also toggle between satellite and interactive street maps. Families can customize their mapping experience by assigning a name and photo to each device within their account, and can also label places they visit frequently, like "Home" or "Soccer Field."

Through the tool's schedule checks option, parents can receive alerts at specified times via text or e-mail. For example, parents could request a schedule check every weekday at 4 p.m. to check on their child's location. In another scenario, parents of a teenager who drives could use the tool to check on their child's location instead of calling or texting the teen, which might present a distraction while the teen is on the road.Read more
