Atlantic Technology Upgrades In-Wall Surround Speakers Atlantic Technology has upgraded the IWTS (In-Wall Theater Systems) 10
SR,
and the THX Ultra-certified IWTS 20 SR with new high-end drivers, and
additional features. The System 10e SR and System 20e SR, as they are
now
known, feature improved high-end performance and dispersion
characteristics
thanks to the new tweeters. The 10e SR has 3/4-inch silk dome tweeters
in
place of the Mylar drivers previously used, and the 20e SR now features
1-inch silk domes. In addition, the System 10e SR now includes a front
mounted switch to select between either bipole or dipole modes of
operation.
The System 10e SR is designed to perfectly complement Atlantic's IWTS
10 and
forthcoming IWTS 5, as well as the company's System 170 and 270
freestanding
speakers. The revised 10e SR can be used as either a dipole or bipole
loudspeaker. In dipole operation, one of the speakers' two 4.5-inch IMG
(Injection Molded Graphite) woofers is gradually muted at frequencies
below
200 Hz to prevent low-bass cancellations (Frequency Enhanced).
The System 20e SR is a Frequency Enhanced dipole as well, with two 5-1/4-inch CCMG (Coated Composite Molded Graphite) woofers and twin tweeters in a similar true dipole arrangement. However, the System 20e SR is one of the few in-wall speakers that meets the exacting specifications for THX Ultra certification. It can also be switched to operate with all drivers in-phase as a bipole, in situations when dipole configuration in inappropriate. The IWTS 20e SR and 10e SR are both designed for ease-of-installation in a standard two-by-four, 16-inch on-center wall construction. Both speakers are now available at an estimated street price of $899/pr. for the System 10e SR and $1249/pr. for the System 20e SR.
