May 2005--Green Design Furniture just announced the new Neehi Collection, created for thin-profile television owners in search of a media console that is both elegant and efficient. Handcrafted in beautiful sustainably-harvested solid American cherry wood, the Neehi media consoles place the TV at the ideal viewing height, efficiently house accompanying components and provide intelligent wire management and access. Available in three lengths (55”,72”,84”) the Neehi Collection accommodates an entire range of Plasma, LCD and thin-profile rear-projection screen sizes.

The concept and design of the Neehi Collection emerged after Douglas Green, founder and inventor of Green Design Furniture, experienced the newest crop of flat screen televisions, as far as his eyes could see, at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show. While these new TV’s were impressive design objects, the available display furniture was of a quality and style more suitable for a computer room than a living room. Little attention had been paid to the cabinet that would house these prized TV’s, there was no obvious method or ingenuity to properly organize, manage and store the numerous components and wires. It was neither simple nor inexpensive to achieve the advertised minimalist look.

“The idea is to use technology to make things simpler or better, not complicating your life or making it more confusing”, comments Douglas Green. “I consulted with Steve Hayes, former CEDIA president and custom electronics guru, to find out what kind of functional demands these new televisions created, then I designed the Neehi media consoles to convey both comfort and beauty, while properly supporting and housing the latest home theater components, with built in flexibility as needs or components equipment change.”

Douglas Green embraces current technology, while reflecting contemporary culture in his designs. His attention to detail and commitment to excellence has earned him several prestigious awards, including the recently awarded Maine 2005 Governor’s Award for Business Excellence, and the Time Magazine’s The Best Design of 1993.
