What to Expect from 2012 Memorial Day Sales

 Memorial Day

Memorial Day weekend is here, so what type of sales can consumers find? Well, the folks at dealnews are here to help.

At dealnews, we're sometimes jaded about holiday weekend sales. They always receive increased marketing pushes that aim to convince shoppers that this is a once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity. But many times, when we compare the discounts to everyday dealnews bargains, these holiday sales are actually just average.

Memorial Day is a bit different though, for a few product categories. For the past two years, we've seen numerous retailers offer respectable sales that feature sizable stacking coupons. In many cases, these extra discounts were the best we'd seen so far that year. In fact, 50% of Memorial Day branded discounts from 2010 and 2011 were the best we'd seen since that February, if not earlier.Read more

Next iPhone to have 3.95-inch Upgraded Retina Display

 iPhone

According to recent reports, Apple's next-generation iPhone will feature an upgraded high-definition Retina display. Apparently Apple is still testing multiple potential designs for the next-generation iPhone, specifically evaluating several new iPhone models enclosed in locked shells, and at least one of these potential new iPhones includes an upgraded 640 x 1,136-pixel Retina display that measures 3.95 inches diagonally.

With an aspect ratio of close to 16:9, the new Retina display is said to be the same width as the current model but taller, and Apple is reportedly toying with adding a fifth row of icons to the home screen in a version of iOS 6 that could be exclusive to the new iPhone in order to take advantage of the new display real estate.

Beyond potentially posing issues for app developers, these reports are also contradictory to earlier stories stating that Apple has already placed orders with its suppliers for new display panels that will be included in the next iPhone. If Apple is still testing different displays, panel orders could not yet have been placed.Read more

Done Deal - Motorola Mobility is Officially Part of Google

 Google logo

The deal is finally done. Motorola Mobility is officially part of the Google empire. After over a year in the making, Google was able to acquire Motorola Mobility for the price of $40 per share, or about $12.5 billion. Motorola Mobility will continue to operate as a separate business entity and as a licensee of Android, but Google still says the purchase will allow it to really catapult its mobility business. Job security for Motorola Mobility's staff is uncertain, however. Rumors of significant layoffs are swirling, which would further support the theory that Google is more interested in the Moto's patents than in entering the hardware business. Whether or not we'll see layoffs or perhaps a Moto-branded Nexus is still unknown.

8G Electronics Aims to Improve the Way We Charge our Electronic Devices

 USB Sock-It

Most of you can identify with the problem of having too many devices that charge over USB, and not enough USB outlets in the house. In this new era of BlackBerrys, Kindles and iPads, households frequently find themselves very…..very……very short on places to charge all of these devices. Let's face it; a typical family these days has not less than 5 mobile devices that require USB charging. Finding an available charging port has successfully become "family game night" at many a residence.

 USB Sock-It

Or, an equally common scenario might be traveling with your iPhone, eReader, and laptop, and then realizing that you brought the cables, but not the mini power brick. Bummer! Or, you brought the charger, but find that your big bulky chargers are blocking any remaining outlets. Add on the fact that these chargers chew up electricity even when they're not being used to charge anything, and you're quickly coming to grips that we as consumer electronics junkies need a "Fix"…..no not that kind of "fix"……a "FIX"…..a solution.Read more
